| MISSOURI,
UNITED STATES http://stlouis.missouri.org/parks/tower-grove/Hist_Features/pavillions.htm "The
comfort of visitors to Tower Grove Park required that structures be
provided from whose shade they might admire the views provided for
their enjoyment. The aesthetics of the Victorian era required that
these structures themselves constitute a part of the view and even
edify those who beheld them. After extended trips to the most famous
parks and gardens of Europe, Henry Shaw commissioned a number of
pavilions for these purposes. Eugene Greenleaf, Henry Thiele, and
Francis Tunica, three well-regarded St. Louis architects, drew up the
plans for a series of pavilions, most of which were completed in time
for the formal opening of Henry Shaw's Tower Grove Park in 1872."
